Former energy security secretary Grant Shapps has replaced Ben Wallace as defence secretary, following the latter’s resignation. In contrast to Mr Wallace, who headed the Ministry of Defence for four years, Mr Shapps has held five cabinet positions in the space of a year. The MP for Welwyn Hatfield has been a regular in the cabinet since the Conservatives came into office in 2010, and his new role will require all of his political experience as he tackles an in-tray that includes the Ukraine conflict and China. Former education minister Claire Coutinho replaces Mr Shapps as energy security secretary. Report by Jonesia.
