U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, has expressed support for Japan in a potential World Trade Organisation dispute with China over the ban on Japanese seafood due to water concerns released from the Fukushima nuclear plant. The Japanese government is taking measures to support its fishing industry, including allocating funds and setting up funds to develop new markets and store excess fish. Emanuel visited the Fukushima region, had lunch with the mayor of Soma, and sampled locally caught seafood.
