Lord Krishna was born at midnight on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. God had taken birth on earth only for the increasing tyranny of the Asuras and for the destruction of Kansa. Janmashtami is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. On this day devotees observe fast along with worshiping Lord Krishna.
