Dog Food Recalled , After Salmonella Found.
Mid America Pet Food recalled Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Hi-Pro Plus, over the weekend, Fox News reports.
The dog food "has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella," the recall notice said. .
A sample tested by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture came back positive for salmonella. .
644 cases of 5-pound dog food bags were "distributed to various distributers and retailers," the company said. .
The recalled product has a "best by date" of April 24, 2024. The lot code is 1000016385.
Those who are impacted are being
advised to "immediately pull the recalled
lot from their inventory and shelves.".
If your dog gets infected with salmonella, symptoms may include decreased appetite, abdominal pain, vomiting, lethargy, fever and diarrhea. .
Once infected, pets can become "carriers and infect other animals or humans," the recall notice warns.
People are also at risk if they've
touched contaminated products.
Symptoms of salmonella infection in humans include "nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever," Fox News reports. .
Rarely, "salmonella can result in
more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms," according to the notice
