Delphine Coindet (born in 1969. Lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland) has been developing sculptures defined by their own ambivalence for twenty years. Some of her works are inspired by a certain kind of design, architecture or theatrical scenery. Other works seem to spring from the screen, like symbols and visualizations that manifest here in real space. This disconcerting plastic expression serves various narratives, both political and personal. Each of her exhibitions offers the artist the opportunity of a specific staging of new productions, recycling older works to show them in a new composition.

Autofriction is the title of her current solo exhibition at Kunsthaus Centre d'art Pasquart in Biel/Bienne. At Pasquart's Salle Poma, she brings together a portion of her recent works in an overall installation. This principle of monumental and retrospective accumulation recalls major actions of the avant-garde-from Kurt Schwitter's Merzbau to Maurizio Cattelan's All. Coindet's proposal, on the other hand, comes across as less demonstrative and powerful. As the title suggests (from the French Selbst-Reibung, pun on autofiction), the artist prefers a playful approach that bears witness to a certain ironic detachment. The exhibition runs until November 19, 2023.
