Afghan sisters Tamana and Zarmina Paryani are on a 12-day-long hunger strike in Cologne, western Germany to protest against what they call the "gender apartheid" in Afghanistan. Despite being imprisoned in Afghanistan before fleeing to Germany, the sisters are determined to keep raising their voices against the Taliban. "Afghan women are deprived of their basic human rights, because they are women," says Tamana Paryani, "We want the German government and the UN to recognise the gender apartheid, stand against it, and stop supporting the Taliban."
