Two siblings have told of their shock after they discovered a living shark - on a British beach.

Samantha, 20, and Jared Farr, 18, were walking on Cleveleys beach near Blackpool, Lancs, when they spotted a catshark.

Catsharks are normally five to seven cm long with curly tendrils coming from their corners and can be common to see in the UK.

Jared and Samantha first thought the shark was actually dead - but then realised it was actually alive when it started 'squishing its tail.'

Shocking footage shows the sibling duo trying to help the animal back into the water, which Samantha described as a 'crazy experience.'

She said: "We were only walking for a few minutes when I saw the catshark but we thought it was dead at first because it was stranded.

"We moved the sand a little bit to see if it would open its eyes and then it started squishing it's tale and we were like 'oh my God - this guy is alive.

"We both then tried to move the water and the tide started suddenly coming in quite rapidly.

"As soon as the tide came in, it started flapping around and he proper swam away.

"It was such a crazy experience."

Samantha, who goes to university in Carlisle, says dead catsharks are often washed up onto the beach and added it's 'crazy' she's been able to see a living one.

She said: "You see them all the time but they are always washed up and dead.

"We didn't know if it was an eel or a catfish but then we searched online and realised it was a catshark.

"It was crazy and just quite funny."
