Concerns raised over medical misconceptions on AI chatbots
AI-driven chatbots, including ChatGPT and Google's Bard, are perpetuating harmful medical misconceptions, particularly regarding Black patients, according to a study led by Stanford School of Medicine. These chatbots, powered by internet-trained AI models, are causing concerns about exacerbating health disparities and medical racism. The study also found that the chatbots failed when asked medical questions related to kidney function, lung capacity, and skin thickness, reinforcing false beliefs about racial differences that experts have sought to eliminate from healthcare institutions for years.
