China has reportedly launched its first nuclear-powered guided missile submarines, giving it the ability to conduct land and sea attacks previously only possible for the US and Russia. The submarines, known as Type 093B, are capable of conducting long-range precision strikes using land-attack cruise missiles. China is also developing a new type of submarine, the SSGN, which could be used against aircraft carriers and for long-range land attacks. The tracking of China's submarines has prompted increased deployments and contingency planning by the US Navy and other militaries in the Indo-Pacific region.
