14-year-old Kierstin Eaddy of Flower Mound, Texas, died after an accident during an amateur karting race at Texas Motor Speedway.
It happened on Sunday morning, 20 July 2014. The race was held in the speedway parking lot at an event held by the Sports Car Club of America. Eyewitnesses indicated that Kierstin Eaddy had just crossed the finish line when she was unable to stop her machine which hit a low cable barrier. It was reported that the teen’s helmet flew off after hitting the cable. Seriously injured, she was airlifted to the Harris Methodist hospital in Fort Worth where she was later pronounced dead.
It is not clear whether Kierstin Eaddy's go-kart malfunctioned after going past the finish line, and ran through the fence instead of slowing down. The machine came to a stop in a field next to the track.
