Pakistan's power consumers may soon face an increase in their electricity bills as the cost per unit is anticipated to surge by Rs0.55. This development arises from a request for an upward adjustment in the monthly fuel price, filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on behalf of government-owned Distribution Companies (Discos).
The request is scheduled for review by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) in the coming days. If approved, it could translate into an additional financial burden of Rs8.37 billion for consumers in a single month.
According to the CPPA's application, September witnessed the sale of an impressive 12.92 billion units of electricity. It's worth noting that hydropower contributed 37.55% of the total electricity production, underscoring the reliance on renewable energy sources.
These statistics shed light on the evolving landscape of electricity generation and the potential financial consequences for Pakistani consumers as they await Nepra's decision on the requested fuel price adjustment."
