South Korea bans production and sale of dog meat
South Korea's parliament approves a historic ban on producing and selling of dog meat due to rising concerns about animal rights and the country's global image. Despite opposition from some dog farmers planning protests, the ban will make slaughtering, breeding, and selling of dog meat for human consumption illegal by 2027, punishable by 2-3 years in prison after a three-year grace period.
