A short video that explains the first pose in Acro Yoga!
Grab your partner, friend, or family member, and give it a go!
Decide who will be the BASE (bottom) and who will be the FLYER (on top). It's usually easier to start with the stronger and bigger person as the base. You can switch roles in the next step if it makes sense.
In Acro Yoga, take it slow. Feel each other, build confidence in your body and technique, and progress safely step by step.
TO KEEP IT SAFE:
“DOWN” word. Every time either of you wants to stop for any reason, simply say "down!" Ensure that you both agree to descend safely and promptly.
For GOING DOWN - For the FLYER: Aim to land with your feet on the floor, (not your knees or head). For the BASE: Bend your legs (not your arms) close to your body, either to the front or sides, but not in the direction of your head.
COMMUNICATE! Communicate actively! Speak to each other, ask questions such as "What do you feel?" or "Do you need something from me?" or "Can you give more of that?" Compliment each other and maintain a positive atmosphere with smiles
Prepare a SAFE ZONE
Clear the space from objects.
For the BASE: Lay on the floor, and spread your arms and legs as far as possible, ensuring a minimum of 1.5 meters of space from the ends of your limbs to the nearest object.
Use puzzle mats if available. If not, cover the floor with a blanket and a mat for comfort. Create a soft landing by surrounding the base with a wall of pillows.
WARM-UP
Take a few minutes to stretch and warm up your body with free movements. Concentrate on your legs, groin, shoulders, hips, and back.
*Bone Stack: In Acro Yoga, aim for efficiency over effort. Ensure the weight descends in a straight line, passing through the bones to the floor. Confirm the presence of a bone stack in the final position.
