The 53rd edition of the AvD Sachsen-Rallye, second round of the 2019 German Rally Championship, was canceled in consequence of a fatal accident that resulted in the deaths of two competitors.

It happened on Saturday, 24 May 2019, shortly after the start of the 11-kilometer first special stage, "Wolfersgrün I". The Renault Clio RS R3T #42 driven by the experienced German rally driver Kai Günther, 48, went out of control over one mile into the timed section, in a fast right corner just before entering the village of Lauterhofen near the city of Kirchberg in Saxony, Germany. The car spun after running wide in the corner and hit a large tree with b-pillar on the driver's side.

Günther was killed almost instantly, his co-driver Sebastian Walker, 44, who was seriously injured, was airlifted to a local hospital. Sadly he passed away several hours later.
