Four people are dead and over 100 police personnel have been left injured in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Violence took place over demolition of an illegal madrasa and an adjoining mosque. Curfew has been imposed in the city. Shoot-at-sight orders have been issued against rioters. Internet services have been completely shut down. Schools and colleges have been asked to remain closed. Violence began when government officials tried to raze the madrasa following a court order. The mob went out of hands in the Banbhoolpura area of Haldwani. The mob pelted stones and the police retaliated with tear gas. The state has been put on high alert. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has urged people to maintain peace.
