The rules for the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA were notified on March 11, 2024. This action clears the path for providing citizenship to unregistered migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who are not of the Muslim faith and arrived in India prior to December 31, 2014. The Centre’s implementation of the CAA has been opposed by superstars of the Tamil film industry, Thalapathy Vijay and Kamal Haasan. The actors issued statements and slammed the Central government.
