Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told Malaysians in a special televised address on Tuesday (May 21) night that the Cabinet had agreed to rationalise diesel subsidies. He said this would begin with targeted diesel subsidies in the peninsula first and later for Sabah and Sarawak.
To prevent any drastic increases in the cost of goods and services, Anwar said diesel subsidies will be given to traders, and this involves 10 public transportation vehicles and 23 goods transport vehicles.
