Wordle-owner, the New York Times, is taking legal action against the geography-based spinoff game Worldle, accusing it of creating confusion and trying to benefit from Wordle's brand recognition. Worldle creator Kory McDonald says there are many other games with similar naming conventions like Wordle but focused on different topics, and he is vowing to fight the legal challenge. The New York Times claims Worldle is nearly identical to Wordle in appearance, sound, and commercial impression. Wordle was created in 2021 by British software engineer Josh Wardle and was later acquired by the New York Times. Worldle has around 100,000 monthly players.
