Lady Gaga, Celine Dion steal show at Olympics opening ceremony
Lady Gaga sings a French cabaret classic near Notre-Dame cathedral to kick off the Olympics' opening ceremony on July 26, 2024 (local time). French-Malian pop star Aya Nakamura showed her moves as she performed her biggest hits. And Celine Dion, beloved among the French, ended the night on a dramatic turn, performing Edith Piaf's "L'Hymne a l'Amour." Actors and music celebrities - from Michelle Yeoh to Lang Lang and John Legend - watched the festivities, along with world leaders and the general public. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who will co-star in a movie version of “Wicked,” walked on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony. Sports icons Zinedine Zidane and Rafael Nadal carried the Olympic torch, on a night watched by tens of thousands and marked the return of the Games to Paris after one century.
