On Wednesday, Russia claimed Ukraine launched a cross-border ground assault into the country’s southwestern Kursk region, about 320 miles from Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin described it as a “large-scale provocation” as his officials asserted that they were fighting off raids for a second day. It's said to be one of the largest incursions into Russian territory since the war began. Putin met with his top defense and security officials to discuss what he called the “indiscriminate shelling of civilian buildings, residential houses, ambulances with different types of weapons.” According to the Russian Defense Ministry, hundreds of Ukrainian troops supported by tanks and armored combat vehicles had crossed into the country.

National security analyst Hal Kempfer joins LiveNOW's Austin Westfall to break it all down.
