Colombian acting mayor arrested at posh home on drug trafficking charges
Colombian acting mayor, Kevin Simón López barros, arrested on drug trafficking charges.
The secretary of state and acting mayor of a Colombian city was arrested and is now facing extradition to the United States.
Kevin López was taken into custody Wednesday at his home in Riohacha, the capital of the province of La Guajira near the border with the Venezuelan state of Zulia.
López is accused by the Southern District of Florida of conspiring to commit a crime and drug trafficking, Colombia's Attorney General's Office said in a statement.
He was transferred to a holding facility in Bogotá as part of the process to complete his extradition.
