A thug who tried to topple a police dog van while draped in an England flag has been jailed by a judge who told him: "You brought shame but upon your town."
Niven Matthewman, 19, was among hundreds of rioters who clashed with police and tried to burn down a hotel housing asylum seekers in Rotherham, South Yorks.
Drapped in a St George's Cross, he was captured on video trying to push the police van over during what police called 'abhorrent scenes of large scale disorder'.
He was also part of a baying mob that chanted 'Yorkshire, Yorkshire' as the hotel housing refugees burnt.
He ten threw a piece of wood and a chair towards police officers protecting the Holiday Inn Express Hotel on August 4.
