Barnes & Noble founder and former chairman Leonard Riggio dies at 83. Riggio passed away surrounded by family in New York City after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. The legendary businessman initially founded the bookstore chain in 1971, forever shaping the future of bookselling. While the company started as a single store in New York City, it would later grow to become the iconic brand we see across the country today, with 600 stores currently open nationwide. Along with Barnes & Noble, Riggio was known for founding Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, MBS Textbook, and GameStop. The 35-year old reality star filed divorce documents on Tuesday citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
