Jack Draper's US Open semi-final against Jannik Sinner has been dominated by illness and injuries to both players as the pair struggle in humid conditions in a marathon match.

The Englishman vomited on the court a couple of times in a second set which he went on to lose as Sinner complained about an issue with his left wrist after falling on it during one of many hotly-contested points.

The 22-year-old was looking uncomfortable out on the court at the Arthur Ashe Stadium throughout the set, appearing to bend over double on a couple of occasions in between points, before losing it on a tiebreak.

Draper seemed to be sick early in the set, having lost the first to the Italian 7-5, but then clearly vomited in front of the TV cameras while the score was at 4-3 in his favor.

Meanwhile, Sinner continues to struggle with a painful left wrist injury which appears to be hampering his backhand in the crunch match.

At one point, both sets of physios were attending to the players at the same time with the intense contest taking its toll on the two stars, who are friends off the pitch.

Draper, while putting in a valiant display on the court, looked worse for wear each time he sat down on his bench in between service games.

And Sinner looked a little better, yelping in agony as members of his team attended to him on the sidelines.

Throughout the set, there was a slightly farcical ongoing discussion over whether Draper's fluids should be cleaned up properly by ground staff.

Instead, a frustrated Draper insisted on wiping it up himself with his towel and treading carefully around the affected area during points.

Despite battling hard, the Englishman, playing in his first Grand Slam semi-final, was unable to land a decisive blow on his opponent's serve and the second set went to a tiebreak.

Just before the deciding game, the umpire urged Draper to agree to having the vomit cleared up comprehensively by staff members but the 22-year-old resisted, despite seeming bothered by the fluid throughout the set.

Sinner then put his wrist injury to one side and raced to a 6-1 lead in the tiebreak before inching over the line to take a two-set lead.

Conditions were unpleasantly humid in New York during the hotly-contested contest and this seemed to take its toll on the two tennis stars.

One person watching on during Draper's ordeal was his mother, Nicky after she made a last-minute U-turn to attend the game having missed the opening rounds.

I've got a flight booked this evening,' she said. 'I only decided this morning to go.'

This was a big departure from her comments earlier this week when she said would 'probably not' be in the stadium for the monumental clash.
