Charles Schwab CEO Walt Bettinger will retire at the end of December after sixteen years at the helm. Charles Schwab President Rick Wurster will take over as CEO starting January 1st. Bettinger will remain as co-chair of the board. Under Bettinger’s leadership, Schwab’s client assets grew by over $8 trillion, and brokerage accounts surged by over 30 million. The growth included Schwab’s 2020 acquisition of Ameritrade. Schwab shares were down slightly in premarket trading.
