The story centers around the historical figure Cao Cao from the Three Kingdoms, who, to assassinate Dong Zhuo, ventures alone into the tiger's den to present a knife. Minister Wang Yun sends his beloved daughter Diao Chan to sow discord between Dong Zhuo and Lü Bu as the main historical thread. Utilizing a seven-star knife that can traverse time and space, the film connects history with the modern world.

In 2016, a game-obsessed nerd named Lü Fengxian participates in an offline event for the popular online game Pearl of the Three Kingdoms 2, where he encounters Diao Chan, Dong Zhuo, Cao Cao, and the two Qiaos, who have traveled to the present. Diao Chan mistakes the similarly-looking Lü Fengxian for the warrior Lü Bu from the Three Kingdoms, and decides to follow him, hoping he will assist her in completing her historical mission to assassinate Dong Zhuo. What kind of sparks will fly between these two star-crossed lovers?

Cao Cao, due to his time travel, ends up as a foolish character but becomes infatuated with the adorable sister duo, the two Qiaos. Meanwhile, Dong Zhuo, representing the evil forces of the Three Kingdoms, overcomes various challenges of modern life and begins to incite a new conspiracy.
