This drone footage shows a thief trying to evade capture - by swimming through a lake to hide on an island.

Chad Lambert, 35, made his unusual getaway after stealing a bottle of wine from a shop.

A court heard Lambert was challenged by staff at a store in Bristol when she started to act suspiciously.

He then smashed a window to get behind the counter, picked up a bottle of wine and took the contents of the till.

The thief then ran into Eastviille Park where he discarded clothing and a bag before he ran into the lake and swam to the small island in the middle.

Avon and Somerset Police used a drone to follow Lambert's movements on the island in the foliage to help locate him.

Officers were then able to reach the island in a boat provided by the fire brigade and arrest him.

Lambert, of Bristol, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison on Monday 21 October after he pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary on Saturday 19 October at around 1pm.

He was also ordered to pay £154 in compensation.
