After 138 years Tam Shepherds has closed its doors, what was the world’s oldest magic and joke shop.
The Queen Street store has been run by the same family since it opened and will now run exclusively online.
The owners cited uncertainty over the upcoming development on attached buildings and high costs of running a small independent shop in the city centre as the reasons behind its closure.
The floors above the shop - what was once the Archaos nightclub which closed in 2007 - is set to be redevelopment into student flats.
Earlier this year the council approved plans for a 14-storey block of student accommodation at 21 to 41 Queen Street which would include 195 beds, a cinema, gym and games lounge.
The ground floor included a retail space which was noted to include Tam Shepherds.
The owners took to social media thanking the city for the support and making it what is was.
