Game hunters warned against endangering PH duck species
Former Candaba mayor and Ibon-Ebon Bird-Watching Festival organizer Jerry Pelayo, during a press conference in Quezon City on Dec. 6, 2024, shows photos of game hunters who posted videos on social media with the endangered Philippine ducks, or 'Dumara.' The International Union for Conservation of Nature claims that there are about 3,300 to 6,700 of the species remaining, along with other wild birds. Pelayo said these game hunters face charges of violating Republic Act 9147, otherwise known as 'An Act Providing for the Conservation and Protection of Wildlife Resources and Their Habitats, Appropriating Funds Therefore, and For Other Purposes.'
