Don’t view punishment with a prejudicial eye, says association

The public caning of Mohd Affendi Awang in Terengganu for close proximity (khalwat) was done in accordance with syariah law and should not be viewed with prejudice, says the Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association (PPMM).
The 42-year-old man and a father of five had pleaded guilty to being with a woman in her 30s who is not his wife or “mahram” on Jan 25 on the third floor of a building undergoing renovation in the Kemaman district.
The whipping sentence was imposed on Mohd Affendi as it is his second offence.
