The powerful dragon gives way to the wise snake as Australians mark the start of the Lunar New Year period in some of its biggest celebrations outside Asia. Nationwide events celebrating the start of the Year of the Snake run from Wednesday until February 12, when a full moon appears. The event is celebrated in several countries such as South Korea, China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
