Anti-Islam campaigner Salwan Momika has been shot dead in Sweden hours before a trial verdict was due over his burning of the Koran in public.

The 38-year-old Iraqi refugee was gunned down in Sodertalje town near Stockholm.

A prosecutor has ordered that the five people be detained, police said, without specifying if the gunman was among them.
