Donald Trump says it's likely impractical for Ukraine to recover all of its land taken by Russia - or for it to join NATO.

He was speaking after holding a telephone conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The US president also said he was likely to meet Putin in Saudi Arabia at some point in the future.
