Warivilca is an archeological site about 7 kilometers west of Huancayo.
According to historians its the sacred complex of the Huanca people who dominated the region for two centuries prior to the Incas.
A stone temple lies in the central square.
The rest of the complex features stone walls five meters high and underground enclosures.
A small museum features the grisly mummy of a woman in her 30s. It appears she was punished for a serious crime.
Her body was chained to a stake in the middle of the plaza, for animals to feed on.
