Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan for Muslims worldwide. Communities have come together for prayer and celebration at the end of their month-long fast. The occasion, which in English means the festival of breaking the fast, also marks the beginning of Shawwal, the 10th month on the Islamic lunar calendar. Many choose to fast an additional six days as the new month begins.
