ಭುವನಗಿರಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ಭುವನೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇಗುಲ ಈಗಿನದ್ದಲ್ಲ. ಈ ದೇಗುಲಕ್ಕೆ ನೂರಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಇತಿಹಾಸವಿದೆ. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಮೊದಲ ರಾಜ ಮನೆತನ ಕದಂಬರ ರಾಜಧಾನಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪಕ್ಕದ ಬನವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈಗಿನ ಹಾವೇರಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಹಾನಗಲ್ ನಿಂದ ಗೋವಾದವರೆಗೆ ಇವರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯ ಹರಡಿತ್ತು. ಇವರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆ ಪ್ರಚಲಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದು ಎಂಬುದು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ ಇತಿಹಾಸ.
