Peru police in Mexican superhero disguise smashes alleged family-run drug business
Video released by the police on Friday, July 18, showed officers, one dressed as the popular Mexican superhero character "Chapulin Colorado," breaking down a grille gate with a sledgehammer in the dramatic operation, which surprised the suspects who were caught off guard by the unusual police tactic.
Authorities seized 1,524 packages of cocaine paste, nine bags of marijuana, and 45 bags of cocaine during the raid on the two-story house, according to police reports.
Colonel Pedro Rojas, head of the Green Squadron, said the mimicry strategy using the beloved character was chosen to coincide with a biographical television series currently airing about Chapulin Colorado's creator.
