A powerful 8.8-magnitude undersea earthquake struck off Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula early on Wednesday, triggering tsunami waves of up to 4 metres (13 feet) and prompting evacuations in the area. Authorities in Russia said that several buildings were damaged and emergency protocols activated. However, no major injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
