Russian surgeons continue surgery despite earthquake
Surgeons in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia continued surgery on a patient despite a powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake, region's health minister Oleg Melnikov said on his Telegram channel on Wednesday, July 30.
"Despite the danger, the doctors remained calm and stayed with the patient until the very end," Melnikov wrote, adding that currently the patient is out of danger.
The shallow earthquake damaged buildings and injured several people in the remote Russian region.
Russian scientists said it was the most powerful quake to hit the region since 1952.
Kamchatka and Russia's Far East sit on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a geologically active region that is prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
