On 8 December 1996, in the 3rd ODI at Karachi, Pakistan’s captain Wasim Akram played one of his most entertaining limited-overs knocks. With Pakistan struggling at 126/4, Akram walked in and turned the game on its head with a fearless innings of 66 not out off just 39 balls, in 58 minutes. His innings included 4 elegant fours and 5 towering sixes, lifting Pakistan to 234/4 in 50 overs.

Although New Zealand chased down the target in 45.1 overs to win by 7 wickets, Akram’s explosive strokeplay remained the highlight of the match. This was vintage Wasim Akram – fearless, commanding, and a delight for his fans.

Pakistan eventually went on to win the series 2–1, also giving opportunities to youngsters like Mohammad Wasim and Mohammad Zahid.
