Survivors of the powerful earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan pleaded for urgent help on Monday (Sept 1) as they helped rescue personnel to pull out the deceased and those still trapped under the rubble.

Many villagers in Kunar province’s Nurgal district said entire communities in the area were wiped out by the magnitude 6.0 earthquake.
