Afghanistan is facing “several overlapping crises,” a United Nations official surveying the region that has just been devastated by the magnitude 6.0 earthquake on Aug 31.

The quake reduced thousands of homes to rubble and killed more than 2,200 people with the survivors facing a bleak future with global aid agencies warning of dwindling funds for food, shelter and medicines.
