US President Donald Trump held low-key talks at the White House on Nov 10 with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former al Qaeda commander who until recently was on Washington's terrorist blacklist and is now trying to end Syria's decades of international isolation.

Trump told the media that he got along well with al-Sharaa and he voiced confidence that the Syrian leader will be able to do the job.
