India’s government confirmed on Wednesday (November 12) that the car explosion outside Delhi’s historic Red Fort which killed eight people and injured at least twenty others was being treated as a terror attack.
Authorities say the blast, which rocked the capital on Monday evening, was the first major explosion in Delhi since 2011. Police are probing potential links to a recent arrest of seven men from Kashmir found with arms and bomb-making materials.
A government statement called the explosion a “heinous terror incident perpetrated by anti-national forces”, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet vowed to bring those responsible to justice “with the utmost urgency and professionalism.”
