Pope Leo departed Ankara airport in a modest Toyota Camry as he began his first overseas trip since becoming head of the Catholic Church. Arriving in Turkey on Thursday, the Pope is expected to call for peace in the Middle East and promote unity among Christian churches. His itinerary includes a visit to Anitkabir, meetings with President Tayyip Erdogan, civil society leaders, diplomats, and Turkey’s chief of religious affairs before continuing to Istanbul.
