Japanese and Chinese vessels have squared off near the disputed Diaoyutai Islands off the coast of Taiwan, with each giving conflicting reports of what occurred. It comes amid rising tensions between Beijing and Tokyo after Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae suggested Japan might intervene in a Chinese conflict involving Taiwan.
