Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Helen Whately has criticised the government’s new youth employment measures, calling them “absurd”. She said ministers are spending nearly £1bn on creating work placements for young people while simultaneously imposing tax rises that, she argues will lead to hundreds of thousands of job losses.
