India’s capital New Delhi continues to choke under a blanket of toxic smog as air quality plunges into the “very poor” category, raising serious health concerns for millions of residents. Thick haze engulfed major landmarks including Akshardham Temple, India Gate, the National War Memorial, and AIIMS, drastically reducing visibility and disrupting daily life.
Traffic crawled through smog-filled roads while metro trains moved across flyovers under a polluted sky. Tourists and locals alike reported breathing difficulties, eye irritation, and an inability to see even short distances. A visiting tourist described the situation as unbearable, saying pollution severely affected his health and ruined sightseeing plans.
Delhi’s annual winter pollution crisis is driven by a mix of vehicular emissions, industrial pollution, crop residue burning in neighbouring states, construction dust, and unfavourable weather conditions that trap pollutants close to the ground. Despite emergency measures and restrictions, air quality remains at dangerous levels, once again highlighting the capital’s long-running battle with toxic air and its growing public health emergency.
