WATCH and listen to a trio from the Cleddau Flute Choir playing Christmas tunes at Pembroke Dock Library.
During their performance on a very rainy December day, the three flautists played Ding Dong, Merrily on High, In the Bleak Midwinter and other festive favourites.
As mentioned earlier, the combined effect of three C-flutes playing in harmony is surprisingly rich in volume and tonal pleasure.
One tune, Carol of the Bells, sparked a debate. The trio first attempted a complicated three-part arrangement which was (in my opinion) especially rewarding to the listener, despite being clearly challenging to play. The musicians, however, were much happier with their second choice of arrangement - featuring two-part harmony and supplying what they felt would be more expected of the well-known tune. Both arrangements are included in the video, so you get to make your own mind up!
It has been a little highlight of the Christmas season in Pembroke Dock (which has been beset by rain throughout). The flautists were very friendly and welcoming and seasonal refreshments were on offer, too.
