The U.S. Justice Department has restored a previously removed image from the Epstein files that includes a photograph of Donald Trump, after determining it posed no risk of exposing survivors of Jeffrey Epstein. The image—showing Trump visible in a photo of Epstein’s desk at his New York mansion—was briefly taken down after being flagged by federal prosecutors in New York over concerns it might depict victims. Following a review, officials concluded no victims were shown and reposted the image without redaction. The temporary removal triggered backlash from Democrats, who accused the Trump administration of a possible cover-up, while Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche denied any connection to the president, saying the takedown had “nothing to do” with Trump. Blanche said 16 images were removed at the request of victim advocacy groups out of caution, amid concerns that some materials were under-redacted. Victims’ rights advocates, including attorney Gloria Allred, warned that unredacted names and sensitive images should never have been released, and at least one Epstein victim said her identity was wrongly exposed.
